Tadpole Lake at Whitetail

One of the lakes at Whitetail seems to be the breeding ground for frogs. There are 7 connected lakes, but only 1 seems to have a ridiculously high-density of tadpoles.

There had to be close to 100,000 tadpoles lining the shallow shore of "Tadpole Lake." So, we took the opportunity to catch some. At this stage the tadpoles were too small to use for bait, so it was a catch and release day.

RJ perfected the put your hand in the water and wait for tadpoles to swim into your hand technique.

Garden Planting 2021

We planted before Mother's Day. Why? Because the pre-started seeds were already trees and needed to get moved outside.

Sara and helpers plant the 2021 garden

To be consistent with past years ... there was a garden plan ... and then we planted 40% more plants than was in the plan. If everything goes well, we should have a jungle in a couple of months.

We are already eating some delicious lettuce and raddishes.

Post-School Activities

After hanging out with your school friends all week, you come home, get online, and start hanging out with them online.

The game/hangout of choice is either Among Us (Milo organized 10 players one Friday) or Multi-Craft (poor man's Minecraft). RJ somehow gets to be two players when playing Among Us - which explains why there are two devices on his bed.

New Dirt Bike Trail

Doug and RJ discovered a new dirt bike trail. Plenty of scary jumps, miles of dirt single-track, and about 50 smaller bumps. We are definitely going back.

Outdoor jobs

Sunny, lo-humidity days on weekends are a call for ... outdoor chores! We spent a good part of the day gardening, painting, and waxing skis (no pictures ... bummer).

Julia paints treehouse rail (and helped with garden painting touch ups)

We also had some fun ... trying to bombard leaves with rocks while out for a bike ride with Bradley.

Grandma and Grandpa come to town

Vaccinations have started and things are opening up. Grandma and Grandpa flew in to spend time with us!
  • Day 1 was the national arboretum
  • Days 2 - 3 was fishing, pickleball, and hiking at Whitetail
  • Day 4 was RJ's hockey game and a visit from Ms. Kimberly and parents
  • Day 5 was church, yardwork, and dinner with Grandad Johnson

Fishing is always fun, but it was more fun after learning the secret from a local!

Pickleball at Whitetail. We also played in our driveway in McLean which provided the added challenge of a sloped and curved court.
