Back Yard Mysteries

There are a couple odd things going on in the back yard.

  1. The perch for the bird feeder ended up halfway across the back yard
  2. The new shed ended up with a lot of holes in a perfectly painted board

Crisp Morning

Douglas the Dog woke up to a crisp 60 degree morning. He threw open the window and got some Fresh Air (Resh Rair in Scooby speak). Another of the Little Things in Life.

Weekend at Whitetail

A great Memorial Day at Whitetail ... lots of outdoor time, some golf, friends, and late bedtimes.

While out for a bike ride, RJ spotted 3 groundhogs, a mom and 3 kittens, and a box turtle. Later on we caught some tadpoles and fed them to the fish.

Julia School Project

Julia's state was Montana, so she dressed as Janette Rankin and captured the essence of a state which is only famous for being close to North Dakota.

A day late and a dollar short

RJ and Doug went to Grandad's house to repair a faucet and clean the porch roof (and some gutters). On the way back to Virginia we wanted to drive by the Orioles game at Camden Yards. On the way by Northern Parkway I realized it was Preakness weekend so we went to check it out.

Due to off-track betting we could still get into the stadium ... and it was mostly quiet.

Pimlico was quiet the day after the Preakness

Turtle Save

A turtle was crossing the street and almost got hit by a car, so we decided to move him (or her) to the backyard.

Yes, the grass needs to be cut!

Moth on Back

I was painting the garage door trim. While reaching up, I felt something hit my back. After looking around and seeing nothing on the ground, I decided it was probably a carpenter bee.

Forty minutes later ...

I was in the kitchen having a snack and Julia said "Dad, you have a leaf on your back." I told her to take it off and she reached for it and started freaking out. I could not see it so I started taking off my shirt. Sara exclaimed, "Go outside, don't shake that thing off in the house."

So I walked outside, took of my shirt (in a bit of a panic) and the thing below ended up on the driveway. Gross.

RJ's Dinner Reward

RJ had some blood drawn and a wrist x-ray to judge his growth. RJ is not fond of needles, so he convinced Sara to bribe him with a trip to Coastal Flats.

So at 5:45pm on Saturday night, we headed to the Tyson's Corner Mall. After walking the mall for one-hour while we waited for a table (Lego store, Game Stop x2, Lovesac) we placed our order. Sara's salad had gluten, so they had to re-make it. So at 8:45pm, we arrived home. I feel like I could have gone to the store, cooked dinner, cleaned up, and watched a movie in the time it took us to eat.

I cannot remember why Julia was annoyed

Ladybugs and butterflies

Sara and the kids enjoy watching the butterflies and ladybugs during their last phases of development. Once we release them, the ladybugs get a full diet of aphids from our kale/lettuce garden.

May the 4th be with you. Doug and Sara headed to Don and Brandi's wedding. The kids when to the Gray's to watch a Star Wars movie.

I wish we could blame the quality on alcohol, but we didn't drink.
