Okemo Ski Vacation

The kids love skiing so it was time for a trip to Vermont. The kids counted the days, Julia talked a lot, and RJ actually smiled for pictures.

Day 1: Travel

After a long drive and a meal at Subway with no vegetables, we arrived, skated, went to church, and skated some more.

We got started early and the kids zoned in on their devices

Day 3: Another Blue Bird Ski Day

RJ up to his normal shenanigans. RJ spent a lot of time off road.

GoPro started when Doug said 'orange' - strangely Julia was not talking

RJ spent a lot of time on double-blacks. Supernova sign above. Black Hole and ungroomed trails were his other favorites.

The GoPro provided some entertainment. RJ was the official photographer.

Day 4: Blue Bird Ski Day with Powder

Overnight we got 4 inches of fresh powder, which changed conditions considerably. With smaller weekday crowds and high temps of around 40, the conditions were great!

RJ talked Julia and Sara into the woods

RJ's 11th Birthday

RJ turned eleven. Aunt Debbie and Grandad came over for dinner (on a weeknight!).

Sara made a soccer cake, which was delicious!

RJ with gifts ... he didn't get to shoot the water gun until after skiing.

Dinner and a Fire

RJ convinced us to have raclette and Doug decided it was time for the first fire of the year.

Good food, warm fire, and an organized living room!

Sara took kids to Ski Liberty for some practice before the trip to Vermont.

On the slopes by 8:40ish - home in time for hockey practice

New Years Eve Redo

Everyone deserves a second chance. After strep-throat put a damper on the K's New Year's Eve, Janelle came back strong with an action-packed celebration.

Kids started with a scavenger hunt

Event 4 of 5 inspired by Dude Perfect (turns out that sticking your tongue out works)

No way all those 2023 props were going to waste

Kids make sugar balls

RJ says, "Mom, can we make those minty sugar balls?"
Sara replies, "No. I don't have time to help you."
RJ claims, "We will not need any help, Julia and I can do it ourselves."
Sara insists, "No, you will need my help."
Doug interrupts, "You can do it kids, I'll help you if you get stuck."

Kids busy at work - notice sugar on Julia's face

Turns out that Doug spent a decent amount of time 'helping' with things like following directions, finding the ingredients, measuring the ingredients, and cleaning up (although kids did help with everything).
